This project involves the alteration and expansion of an existing house built in the 1970s, as well as the construction of a porch and swimming pool. Since the property is located on an irrigated farmland—orange groves—the extension is located to the east, in an area where as few trees as possible will be removed. The extension, designed with white plaster and hollow block elements, meets the client's needs for accommodation and a bathroom equipped for people with reduced mobility.
The hollow block, also known as a "bogotó," is characteristic of modern Algarve architecture and is included in the existing house. At the client's request, this element was once again used to safeguard privacy from the public path and neighbouring property. As illustrated in the images above, the bogotó was also used to create an area more protected from the peaks of summer heat.
Between the house extension and the new porch, an outdoor space for gathering and connecting with nature is proposed, with the typical agricultural landscape of the region as a backdrop.
