This project includes the alteration and extension of an existing house built in the 1970s, as well as the construction of a porch and swimming pool. Being an agricultural land with irrigated farming - orange trees, the extension is developed to the east, in an area where the smallest possible number of trees will be removed. The expansion, proposed in white painted plaster and hollow block elements, responds to the client's needs for a accomodation unit prepared for people with disabilities.

Corridor in the east facade of the extension with the "bogotó" hollow blocks
The hollow block, also called "bogotó", is characteristic of modern Algarve architecture and is included in the pre-existing housing. At the client's request, this element was again used to safeguard privacy for the public path and neighboring plot. As illustrated in the images above, bogotó was also used to create an area that is more sheltered from heat peaks in the summer.

Between the extended house and the porch, an outdoor space is designed for gathering and contact with nature, having as background the typical agricultural landscape of the region.
